 FRESHMEN
Welcome Freshmen to Aquinas! I hope you will enjoy your experiences at AQ. Freshmen year is an exciting time with much to anticipate. This is a great opportunity to make new friends, join extracurricular activities and get involved within the community.
I will be meeting with each of you the first semester to introduce the Aquinas Graduation Plan. It is a tentative plan to help map out the courses that you will be taking over the next four years. You will be able to see when your schedule allows for elective choices. This is also an opportunity for you and I to get to know each other.
I am looking forward to meeting each and every one of you a little better than at orientation. Please feel free to stop down anytime you have questions, concerns or just need to talk to someone.
SOPHOMORES
Welcome back to The Aquinas Institute for your sophomore year. Try to get off to a great start academically. Your sophomore year counts just as much as your junior and senior year. You are on the way to establishing a GPA and rank that will be key factors in the eyes of college admission representatives.
If you haven't already done so start to explore clubs and activities both in and outside of school that will offer you a chance to develop your interests, talents and leadership skills. This will allow you to define your likes and dislikes in hopes of finding a career that will fit you! Consider volunteering in your community, job shadowing or even internships to learn about various careers you may be interested in.
This year you will be taking The PLAN test on October 14, 2009. The PLAN provides practice for the ACT, which students will take in their junior year. In addition to predicted results for the actual ACT, students will receive career/future planning information based on their responses to an interest inventory. Scores are distributed to students before winter break.
ATHLETES—NCAA Requirements
Underclassman and their parents may wish to visit the NCAA website (www.ncaa.org) in order to be aware of the requirements and eligibility for future college athletes. There is a lot of informative information that are must reads for students and their parents who are hoping to play a college sport.
